Most definitely recommend you check this out and install Andy. I'm loving it. It's fucking brilliant.

I haven't done much to customize Handcent, but even at first glance it's far more pleasant looking than the default messaging service. Although it was kind of annoying when I was getting double announcements for each text before I learned how to disable the default. The phone would just sit there, then scream out "DROID! DROID!" instead of the usual single "DROID!" The single scream doesn't bug me at all, but the double was kind of stressful.
Also, I think it was one of the updates to Maps that was causing the problems. Perhaps not directly, but through one of the other programs that used it -- but I had to uninstall Maps again, and this time I didn't add the latest update, but everything is now working as expected. So, hopefully whichever app is conflicting will get that worked out so I can re-upgrade the Maps. Not that I notice any difference!

Lots of talk about the new Nexus One (HTC) phone. I've only heard good things about. Immediately available for T-Mobile, with Verizon availability in the Spring. You can also get an unlocked version if you fancy that.
'Spring' is right around the corner - but I'm itching for an upgrade. I was going to hit up Verizon this weekend and get the Droid/Droid Eris deal (Buy the Droid, get the Eris for free) for myself and my wife. The Nexus One looks damned sweet though...

This particular user prefers the Droid to the Nexus One (Engadget Review).
Industry politics aside, though, the Nexus One is at its core just another Android smartphone. It's a particularly good one, don't get us wrong -- certainly up there with the best of its breed -- but it's not in any way the Earth-shattering, paradigm-skewing device the media and community cheerleaders have built it up to be. It's a good Android phone, but not the last word -- in fact, if we had to choose between this phone or the Droid right now, we would lean towards the latter.
On a side note, the 2.1 OS platform that comes with the Nexus One will be released in the next week or so for the Droid as an over the air update. The Droid will have the exact same functionality at that point plus a physical keyboard for those who want one and a slightly higher resolution screen.
I thought I liked having the physical keyboard, but I never use it on the droid.
Did you ever get Swype? It's extremely awesome.
Oops, forgot to reply. Yes, Swype is pretty amazing. It took a little while to get used to it, but I definitely am a fan.
isnt the nexus one's processor 2x faster than the droids?
According to this site, yes, but I have never noticed any issues with anything that might be related to processing speed on my Droid. That might be an issue in the future as the apps become more demanding or if trying to run many resource-consuming apps at the same time.

Yep. And it learns the words you manually type into it. It's great. I can reply to text messages, etc., with one hand now with nary a hiccup. It's quick. I love it.
Get SholesMod on the Marketplace Andy and thank me laterPM me if you have any questions about it. After you get it setup, get SetCPU (requires rooted phone with SholeMod). Set 'Auto' for phone detection (second to last option), not Droid. Set Max CPU to 800 Mhz and min at the minimum.

It's basically a custom mod that tweaks the hell out of your phone. It's like a Droid on steroids.

Adobe got 7 million iPhone and iPod touch download requests for Flash in December
A touch of history might be appropriate here. Back in March 2008, Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen proudly proclaimed that his team was about to start coding a Flash player for the iPhone, only for his company to promptly backtrack on those words a day later. Then, about this time last year, Apple and Adobe again announced that they were collectively working on putting the ubiquitous format on Cupertino's mobile devices, but you won't be surprised to hear that hasn't born any fruit yet either. In fact, relations seem to have grown a lot frostier thanks to the iPad's Flash-less introduction, and an escalating war of passive aggressive words culminated in Steve Jobs calling Adobe lazy. Lazy or otherwise, Adobe is keeping track of its download stats, and it's taken the chance to boast that it received a cool 7 million download requests for Flash player from iPhone and iPod touch devices during December. We're hardly shocked by this number, but it seems to illustrate well the fact that so long as the two heavyweights continue playing an increasingly complacent form of hardball with one another, the only winners will be their competition.

Flash crashes my MacBook Pro every day. It is crap. Give me html5.

I thought things just worked on Macs? Guess not.
Just ordered my Droid yesterday and should get it today or tomorrow. Can't wait to start playing with it.

I just pre-ordered the HTC (Droid) Incredible. Should be arriving on Thursday. Too bad I'm in Flagstaff for work right now. Hopefully I'll be back in time to receive it. Can't wait.
Indy, you'll love the Droid and the Android OS as a whole. I cherish my Droid. It's too bad I have to sell it now that I'm getting another Android phone (the HTC). Such is the life of a tech junkie.
I waited because I:
- Didn't want to pay full price (got 2 for 1 for my wife and I)
- Didn't want to deal with all of the bugs for any brand new technology
- Wanted to wait and see if the Nexus 1 was a flop or not (it was)

So far so good. The web browsing is amazing. And the Google Goggles has come in very handy. I've only had it for a few days, but am very impressed so far.
